Exodus Chap 35ff tells of how Moses enlisted the help of the Israelites for generous offerings of the various materials and for assistance according to their ability to make the parts and items necessary to build the tabernacle and the ark of the Covenant. Though it required considerable effort and hard work, Moses made sure that he adhered precisely to the Lord’s detailed specifications (Focus) till the tabernacle was ready (First Reading).
One is truly impressed with the cooperation of the people as they performed their tasks, and with Moses’ obedience to the Lord. It is no wonder then that their sincere efforts, driven by their love for the Lord, were rewarded with his presence – ‘the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle’ (Ex 40:34).
Each of us has been commanded by the Lord – to love God and to love one another – in and through our vocation in life. It is important for us to cooperate with the Lord and continue his mission of sharing the gospel, giving generously of our time, talents and resources for the good of others, and to build up his Church.
How much do I involve myself in Church programmes or my SCC? Do I actively participate in the Eucharist or am I a mere spectator? Do I care to know the Bible, CCC and Church documents?
